Construction began in 1817 and took 42 years to complete. The granite came from quarries in nearby Dalkey, the same stone that paves half of Dublin.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEarly one winter morning I was walking the East Pier, camera in hand, when I spotted a bird perched on the weather station. I had one frame before the moment was gone. The silhouette was in my mind when I shot it. I happened to have a red filter on the lens, which darkens blue tones and pushes contrast hard, turning a pale winter sky almost black.
