Winter Sunrise, Wicklow

ABOUT THIS PRINT
A familiar spot; you'll find a few images in the archive made from this location. This being Ireland, the weather is unsettled most of the time, so no two days up here are the same. On the right day, no two hours are the same.
This was a winter morning. The sun rising in the east had climbed just high enough to reach the landscape in the distance, lighting the mountains while the dark cloud above and the shadowed foreground below held their edges - a natural frame around the bright middle of the picture. None of it was arranged. It was just there, briefly.
Shot handheld on a Minolta SRT 101 with Ilford HP5 Plus, developed in my darkroom.
PAPER & PRINTING
Printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm:
- 100% cotton, acid free, archival
- Matte surface with a soft, lightly defined felt structure
- Giclée printed with pigment-based archival inks
- Archive Edition is an open edition, printed to order.
A NOTE ON PRINT TONE
These are not strictly black and white prints. Each image is toned in post to a specific warmth, a slight shift away from neutral grey. It's subtle. They'll read as monochrome at a glance, but there's warmth in there. That's intentional.
Shot on 35mm film, the grain of the original negative is part of the image.

Mockup images are for illustrative purposes. We recommend measuring your wall before ordering.
FRAMING
Framing is not included. These are poster-format prints, designed to sit flush in a frame with no mount. Standard frames are widely available from IKEA, Desenio, and most independent framers. A simple black or natural wood frame works well.
For the best finish, I recommend professional framing with anti-reflective glass. It makes a significant difference to how the print reads on the wall.
